Milagros

Acrylic on canvas
36 x 36

The Spanish word “milagro” translates to “miracle”. In the Mexican Folk Catholic practice of manda, metal charms are given to symbolize the nature of an answered prayer, wish for the future, or healing request. In this painting, milagros are pinned to a tangled thicket as tokens of good luck while moving through the thorns of life. This work was directly inspired by the artist’s own pilgrimage to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
